How to Wash Your Chiffon Hijab (Without Ruining It)
Share
Chiffon is beautiful, but it is also delicate. If you throw it in the washing machine with your jeans, it might get ruined.
Follow these simple rules to keep your hijabs looking brand new.
Rule #1: Wash by Hand
The machine is too rough for chiffon.
- Fill a bowl or sink with cold water.
- Add a little bit of mild soap (gentle detergent).
- Swish the hijab in the water gently with your hands.
Rule #2: Do Not Squeeze!
When you are done washing, do not twist or wring the fabric like a towel. This can stretch the shape and break the threads.
- Do this instead: Gently press the water out with your hands.
Rule #3: Dry Flat
Lay the hijab flat on a drying rack or a clean towel. Do not put it in the dryer. The heat can hurt the fabric. Also, keep it out of the bright sun while it dries so the color doesn't fade.
Can I Iron It?
Yes, but be very careful!
- Best Way: Use a steamer. It takes the wrinkles out without touching the fabric.
- If you must iron: Put a thin cotton cloth on top of the hijab first. Then iron on top of the cloth using low heat. This protects the chiffon from burning.
